Food Services Manager

 

Qualifications

Completion of a college or other program related to hospitality or food and beverage management is usually required. Several years of experience in the food service sector, including supervisory experience, are required.

 

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of a restaurant, bar, cafeteria or other food or beverage service

Determine type of services to be offered and implement operational procedures

Recruit staff, hire chefs or cooks and oversee staff training

Set staff work schedules and monitor staff performance

Control inventory, monitor revenues and modify procedures and prices

Resolve customer complaints and ensure health and safety regulations are followed

Ensure that all equipment is properly cleaned and maintained

Negotiate arrangements with suppliers for food and other supplies

Negotiate arrangements with clients for catering or use of facilities for banquets or receptions.

Ensure a safe work environment for yourself and your co-workers by upholding the safety rules

Adhere to sanitation standards as outlined by the Public Health Department.

Prepare budgets

Personal Qualities

Excellent organizational skills and costing abilities

Willingness to perform line functions (for example, set tables, bus, serve and seat patrons) when required.

They should enjoy coordinating information and the activities of others; setting work schedules, monitoring staff and controlling inventory and negotiating arrangements with suppliers and clients.

A friendly, pleasant personality

Good communication, supervisory and problem-solving skills

The ability to work alone or as part of a team

The ability to remain calm while working in close quarters with others during busy periods

Flexibility and creativity

 

Advancement Opportunities? 

Progression to senior management in food service is possible with experience.

 

Pay Range

$22,000 – 40,000 salary per year depending on the experience of the manager and the type and or size of the food service operation
