Child and youth care workers work to provide excellent physical care, emotional and social development for children, pre teens and adolescents.

Responsibilities

In general, child care workers:

Establish trusting and meaningful one-to-one relationships with children and adolescents

Plan and implement daily activities, provide regular nutritional meals in accordance with the Canada Health Guide, safe and organized recreational and social activities and structured environments.

Personal Qualities

Enjoys children and adolescents

Has good decision-making and problem-solving skills

Has the desire, ability and maturity required to engage in healthy and positive relationships with children and adolescents

Is reliable and consistent

Has the flexibility and creativity required to adopt new ways to do things

Has the ability to work in a team environment with children and their families

With experience and professional development, child care workers may operate or manage a daycare or work in a recreational capacity with youth.

Pay Range

$5.90 - $10.00 per hour depending on position and experience
