Professional Image - Appearance and Grooming Appearance and grooming standards have been developed so that each Colleague is presented in a conservative style, creating a first impression that meets the expectations of our Guests. Our presentation is our calling card, which instills confidence in our guests that we will provide extraordinary service to them.
The objective of these guidelines is “consistency.” When consistency is applied to people, it is called fairness. If all employees consistently follow the guidelines set forth, uniformity, fairness and respect will be assured.
Good personal hygiene is essential. Daily showers and the use of deodorant are a must. Teeth should always be clean and fresh breath is imperative. Hands and nails should be clean at all times. Nails should be neatly trimmed and should not extend more than ¼ inch beyond the end of the finger.
Hair must be clean, neat and in a conservative, professional style that allows for eye contact at all times. Extreme styles (e.g. height exceeding two inches above head, asymmetrical, bi-level, etc.) or excessive use of products are not acceptable. Hair colour must be natural looking and if dyed or highlighted should be discreet. (e.g. Colour should be no more than two shades darker or lighter than natural colour.) Dark roots are not acceptable. Colleagues in food service areas must comply with health department regulations. Males: Hair must not extend over the collar and must be neatly trimmed around the collar and ears. Shaved heads are permitted and should be maintained daily, with no stubble. Brush cuts must be no shorter than a #2 clipper. Females: Long hair must be restrained. Conservative barrettes, combs, headbands, clips and bow/ribbons may be worn, if complementary to hair and uniform.
Men are required to shave daily, preferably immediately before their shift. Neatly trimmed beards and moustaches, of a conservative style, are permitted if they are fully-grown (must be grown during a vacation or other non-working period). Soul patches are not permitted. Beards and goatees must be no longer than a #2 clipper. Strap, frame beards and geometric designs are unacceptable. Sideburns should be of a conservative style and be neatly trimmed and should not extend below the bottom of the ear; “flares” and “muttonchops” are unacceptable.
Moustaches
are permitted but must not extend beyond the corner of the mouth or top of
lip. Conservative jewellery may be worn in moderation, but may not detract from the uniform or business attire. Where mechanical or other safety hazards exist, no jewellery should be worn which could get caught or might otherwise cause injury. Necklaces may not be visible on uniformed Colleagues. Silver, gold or pearl necklaces are acceptable. Necklaces of hemp or wooden beads are not acceptable. Ankle bracelets and visible body piercing (e.g. tongue, nose, eyebrow, etc.) are not allowed. Females: May wear small studs or hoop earrings (no larger than a quarter). One pair of earrings is permitted - with one earring in each ear in the lower lobe. Earrings should be close to the ear - post or clip-ons are acceptable; large or dangle earrings are unacceptable. A ring set on one finger of each hand; one gold or silver chain or pearl necklace (optional). One bracelet or watch on each wrist (optional). Watches are black, white, gold or silver tone. Silver or gold chain link or solid metal bracelets are appropriate. No sports watches with Velcro bands, with the exceptions of certain departments, e.g. Spa, Golf Course.
Males: No earrings permitted while on duty. A ring set on one finger of each hand; one gold or silver chain (optional). One bracelet or watch on each wrist (optional). Watches are black, white, gold or silver tone. Silver or gold chain link or solid metal bracelets are appropriate. No sports watches with Velcro bands, with the exceptions of certain departments, e.g. Spa, Golf Course.
Accessories / Makeup Perfumes, colognes, after-shave, hair tonic and scented lotions are to be used in moderation. Uniformed Colleagues may only wear accessories issued as part of the uniform. Items such as belts with designs or logos, hats, headbands, and bandanas are not permitted. Sunglasses are not to be worn indoors, in dark areas or at night. Prescription sunglasses may be worn only when necessary, but must not be mirrored, silver-coated or opaque. For certain positions, the hotel provides sunglasses. Departments will provide the Sunglasses Policy outlining appropriate use and responsibilities. Hats may be worn if they are required for health and safety reasons, or if they are part of a prescribed uniform.
A maximum number of two work related or industry pins may be worn with the uniform. No unauthorized pins are allowed. Tattoos must not be visible. Combs, wallets, or large objects should not be visible or carried in pockets.
Females: May wear nail polish that is well maintained, meets health and safety standards, and is of a neutral or conservative colour that compliments the uniform or business attire. Make-up should promote a professional, well-groomed image. It should be used as an accent only and should be applied conservatively and compliment normal skin tones. Extreme colours and/or excessive amounts are not permitted. . |
