LETTER FROM A LIVING ROOM VOLUNTEER

 

 

 

To Future Living Room Volunteers,

My Name is Mick White. For the past 7 months I have been a volunteer at the "Living Room". It has been one of the best experiences during my time in Banff. The team of Co-Coordinators and fellow volunteers are a great bunch of people and are very welcoming and accepting of everyone's cultural differences. I've met people that I never would have usually met.  The Living Room offers the opportunity to meet a diverse range of adventurous people from all walks of life. As a volunteer, I've helped cook some great pasta dinners on our Wednesday and Saturday drop-in nights. This can mean cooking for anywhere between 10 to 80 people. It's always a great chance to meet Banff's new comers and catch up with the regulars.

 

The Living Rooms Mountain Adventure Program is an excellent way for people to get out and experience the great outdoors. Being a Living Room Volunteer has given me the opportunity to help plan and participate in some of the great adventures that the Rocky Mountains has to offer. This has included kayaking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, hiking, camping, mountain climbing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing - the list is long! Also the Living Room offers many other activities like the summer theatre production, dinner and movie nights and games/sports nights.

    

If that isn't enough, we also have regular Volunteer Appreciation Nights. These are a free event for volunteers to get together and try out new activities or meet new volunteers and generally just have fun.

         

If your considering becoming a volunteer, I can really recommend it. You'll have the time of your life and meet some great people.
